🏡 Living in Milan: Frequently Asked Questions for International Students

If you’re considering renting an apartment in Milan for your studies, you might have some questions.

The mother of a student, who is interested in booking one of the apartments near Bocconi ( Sergio Apartment ) asked me a few questions.
I believe these could be helpful for anyone considering renting one of my apartments 😊

🛡️ Is it safe to live on the raised ground floor? Can windows be opened without concern?

Absolutely! Living on the raised ground floor is safe, and you can open the windows without any issues. We’ve always rented to both male and female students, and there have never been any problems.

🌃 Is there a lot of traffic at night on the street in front of the apartment? Or is it quiet?

No, it’s quiet at night. During the day, there are a few cars and students walking on the sidewalk, as it’s right in front of the university.

🧑‍💼 Is there a doorman in the building?

Yes, there is.

👨‍👩‍👧 Do mostly students live in the building?

In the building, mostly families live, including the owner’s family. The apartment on the second floor also belongs to the same owner and is where he used to live as a child with his whole family. Now, this apartment is rented to Bocconi students; it has three bedrooms, and it is this one:

SDA-Bocconi Apartment

🧹 Is the apartment cleaned weekly?

The cleaning service included in the price is once a month. You can agree directly with my cleaning agency for additional services.

🪑 Would it be possible to add an armchair to the bedroom with the extra bed?

Yes, you can buy an armchair. However, since no one has ever requested it before, the owner will not pay for it, so it will have to be at your own expense.

🛏️ Do you provide sheets, comforter/blanket, pillows, and towels?

There will be a complete set for each bed.

🧺 Is there a dryer to dry clothes after washing?

In Milan, dryers are unfortunately still not very common, and we usually dry clothes on a drying rack, hanging them with clothespins. Drying racks and clothespins are provided.

🌐 Is there an internet connection in the apartment?

Yes, there is in all the apartments.

❄️ Is there air conditioning and heating in the apartment, in all rooms?

Air conditioning is also not very common in Milan, and this apartment does not have it.

There is heating, which is centralized. This means that the building’s boiler operates during the periods of the year established by Italian law, usually from October to April, and the heating comes from radiators.

📅 Also, how does the rental process work?

I’ll send you an email with the payment details to rent the “Sergio” apartment for 12 months.

📝 Would I or my son sign the lease? (We are from the US.)

Your son, and the contract will be in the name of both of the renters.

📄 What paperwork is needed?

Once you make the payment as booking confirmation to RentalMilan.com, you should fill this form with your son’s details:

Booking Information Form

No problem if you don’t have the Italian tax code (CF) or the flight details yet.

🖊️ Would we sign the lease directly with you?

The lease contract will be between the renters and the owner. You’ll pay the monthly rent to the owner.

From RentalMilan, you’ll receive a booking confirmation with my signature, including all the details about the apartment and the payments, in addition to the invoice, once you make the payment as booking confirmation.

🏠 Are you the owner?

I’m not the owner; I’m the manager of RentalMilan, the agency that manages the rents of this apartment. I’ll always be the intermediary between you and the owner; you don’t need to talk to or meet him. But if you want, you can do it, no problem 😉

📆 Would it be OK to start the lease from August 15?

Yes, it is. It’s not necessary for the lease to start on the first day of the month and end on the last day; you can choose the dates you prefer, within the available period.

If you have any more questions or need further information, feel free to contact me! 😊
